What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process of using machine polishing to remove imperfections from your vehicle's clear coat layer. Swirl marks from automated car washes, light scratches, water spot etching, and dull oxidation can all be reduced or eliminated — revealing the true depth and clarity of your paint underneath.

Most vehicles that have been through an automated car wash even a handful of times have swirl marks visible in direct sunlight. Paint correction removes those and restores the showroom-quality finish your paint is capable of.

Correction levels

We recommend the right level after a paint inspection. All levels can be followed with a ceramic coating for maximum long-term protection.

1
1-Step Correction
Best for: Light swirls, minor water spots, dull finish
A single polishing stage using a mild compound or all-in-one product. Reduces light defects by 40–60% and significantly improves gloss. Best for newer vehicles or paint that just needs a refresh.
2
2-Step Correction
Best for: Moderate swirls, light scratches, oxidation
Two polishing stages: a more aggressive compound to cut through deeper defects, followed by a refining polish to restore maximum clarity. Corrects 70–90% of paint defects on most vehicles.
3
3-Step Correction
Best for: Heavy swirling, severe oxidation, neglected paint
Three stages of polishing for the most comprehensive correction possible. Aggressive cut, refining polish, and final finishing polish. Best for vehicles with years of machine-wash swirl damage.

Paint Correction FAQ

What is paint correction?
Paint correction is the process of using machine polishing to remove or reduce imperfections in your vehicle's clear coat — swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, bird etch, and oxidation. The result is a dramatically deeper, glossier finish that looks the way it did when the car left the showroom.
What is the difference between 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step paint correction?
A 1-step correction uses a mild all-in-one compound or polish to reduce light swirls and boost gloss — great for newer paint in decent condition. A 2-step uses a more aggressive cutting compound to remove deeper defects, followed by a refining polish to restore clarity. A 3-step adds a final finishing polish for maximum depth and shine on paint with severe defects. We recommend the right level based on a paint inspection.
Can paint correction remove deep scratches?
Paint correction removes defects within the clear coat layer. Swirl marks, water spots, light scratches, and oxidation can typically be fully or significantly reduced. Deep scratches that have cut through the clear coat into the color coat or primer cannot be removed by polishing — those require touch-up paint or a professional respray.
How long does paint correction last?
Defects that are fully polished out are permanently removed. However, new swirl marks and scratches will develop over time through washing and normal use. Protecting your corrected paint with a ceramic coating is the best way to extend how long it stays pristine — ceramic creates a hard, protective layer that's much more resistant to new swirls.
